Years past, Steve would forego cocktails at parties to prove to others he didn't have to drink, even though he arrived drunk. “Still I'm thinking, ‘I'm not that bad,' not realizing I'm probably the guy other people are looking at and saying, ‘I'm not as bad as that guy.'”Īfter shoveling snow that January day in 1996, Steve drank himself into a stupor.
